History of Patan

Patan was established as new city by the Vanraj Chavda as the capital on samvat 802 vaishakh sud-2. Patan was known as Anahilpur after the name of a bharwad (shepherd) called Anahilla. It is situated on the banks of the river 'Saraswati River'.

It is generally assumed that it was built in the memory of Bhimdev son of Mularaja, the founder of the Solanki dynasty of Anahilwada Pattan. Patan reached the heights of glory under the rule of Solankis till Muhmud Ghazni in 1024Ad.

Two historical monuments of 'Sahatraleeng Sarovar' (Lake) and 'Rani's Vav' built in memory of Queen Udayamati and both are magnificent and have important place in Gujarat of India.

Siddhraj ascended the throne of Patan after the death of his father Karandev.  Siddhraj Jaysinh was a notable king of the Solanki dynasty. He was also known as Siddhraj Solanki. Patan`s condition was worse in the last days of Karandev.

The golden age of Gujarat was achieved under the rule of Sidhhraj laisinh. We find great descriptions of this large metropolitan city of Patan in many books of the time that sing the praises of its beauty and prosperity as the capital of a wealthy empire.

His grand father Bhimdev`s descendants attempted their best to overpower the throne from child Jaysinh. His mother Minaldevi, Maha Mantri Santu and Munjal Mehta in the initial stages played a great part to prevent them in their attempts.
